Leeper Park is indeed a special place where generations since have forged
memories from those very features realized from George Kessler's vision and the City
Beautiful movement. I think the Tribune article has provoked some valid responses from
this list, among neighbors and social media. It makes me proud to live in such a
dynamic neighborhood, an historic area, a vibrant city!
A solemn and relaxing Memorial Day weekend to you all,
Timothy Klusczinski
Park Avenue
President - Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County
05/30/2017 11A: Stellar Communities Fagade Grant Committee (HPC Offices)
with Elicia Feasel (co -committee representative). Finalize the portfolio of
prospective building grant beneficiaries in North Liberty, Indiana as provided to
us by DLZ. Develop a priority list from criteria based upon corridor location,
property grouping, historic and architectural merit including the most recent
survey rating, and the potential to improve the current rating after rehabilitation
work. Final recommendation was returned to DLZ and will be used to determine
grant appropriations.
06/05/2017 10A: Staff meeting (HPC Offices). Review pending agenda items
with Executive Director Feasel. Address questions from Margaret Fosmoe —
Reporter at the South Bend Tribune about Leeper Park and HPC review authority
for use in an upcoming article. See S.B. Tribune: "Changes at South Bend's
Leeper Park require historic commission approval; Landscape got landmark label
back in 9996" By Margaret Fosmoe South Bend Tribune Jun 7, 2017.
06/08/2017 6:30-8P: Community Forum on Lead Contamination (St. Joseph
County Library; Humphrey's Multimedia Room). Invited to participate as a
panelist by Rona Plummer — Technology and Research Manager; SJCPL for this
public forum on lead hazards. I was joined by Todd Zeiger — Executive Director
of the Northern Regional Office of Indiana Landmarks, Whitney Griffin —
Environmental Health Specialist at the St. Joseph County Health Department and
Kathy Schuth — Executive Director; Near -Northwest Neighborhoods, Inc.
Discussion was moderated by Taylor Popielarz — Multimedia Journalist; ABC57.
The event was covered by ABC57 and WSBT-22. Event was free and open to the
public, with an opportunity for questions.
• 06/12/2017: Conference call with Director Feasel and Attorney Brett Hummer.
Mr. Hummer relayed that he will be taking a new job soon which will effectively
end his service as Deputy Attorney for St. Joseph County and as HPC's legal
representative. Mr. Hummer expressed to Elicia and I how much he's enjoyed
working with the agency, its staff and membership.
• 06/14/2017 1P: Joined Director Feasel and HPC Treasurer Molnar for discussion
on next year's department budget following notification from St. Joseph County.
