HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br />OF SOUTH BEND & ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, INDIANA <br />President's Report for January 23d, 2017 <br />• 12/19/2016 7P: HPC Monthly Meeting (County -City Building; Room 1308). <br />• 01/06/2017 10A: Meeing with Deb Parcell, Todd Zeiger and Brad Miller of <br />Indiana Landmarks to explore a collaboration regarding the HPC Tool Crib <br />initiative. 'Landmarks' expressed interest in marketing, possible storage location, <br />and workshops featuring the equipment and proper use. It was decided to plan a <br />demonstration at Kizer - open to members of both organizations. <br />We were later joined by Elicia Feasel and discussed other matters, including <br />Tippecanoe Place. <br />• 01/18/2017 10A: Satin on a meeting between Director Feasel and Joseph Molnar <br />(serving in his capacity as the Ordinance Violations Bureau Clerk for the City of <br />South Bend). Explored HPC enforcement opportunities within existing sections of <br />the municipal code. <br />01/19/2017 AM: Telephone discussion with HPC Attorney Hummer regarding <br />written correspondence from Eric Boyd (re: Boyd v. Historic Preservation <br />Commission). Contacted Elicia Feasel to provide her with an update. Collaborated <br />with Mr. Hummer throughout the day on HPC departmental responses to <br />petitioner' requests. <br />Resolution #17-01 completed! This policy proposal is the product of an <br />investigation into special application requests for maintenace and repair items. <br />Once adopted the resolution would act as a policy amendment and a guide for <br />items subject to staff approval. I will present the Resolution for consideration by <br />the Commission membership on January 23`d, 2017. <br />• 01/20/2017 Completed first draft of a letter to Amber Grundy - Executive <br />Director of Camp Tannadoonah (Vandalia, Michigan). WSBT recently reported <br />on the camp's "GoFundMe" initiative intended to restore the 1924 Morris Lodge. <br />Presently, the camp hopes to raise $10K which will be used to replace the original <br />windows and siding. After conferring with Director Feasel, we decided to contact <br />camp administrators; hoping to encourage a more preservation -friendly strategy <br />for "restoration" of the lodge. Elicia and I will solicit the HPC's affiliates to add <br />their voices. <br />• 01/22/2017 9A: Watched WNIT "Outdoor Elements" with host Evie Kirkwood — <br />Excutive Director of the St. Joseph County Parks Dept. Episode #1503 <br />(Repurposed Buildings, Mutual Homes of South Bend, Indoor Air Quality) <br />featured HPC's own Elicia Feasel. Elicia used two local examples "Buccellato <br />Design, LLC" and "Circa Arts," to illustrate the virtues of sustainability and <br />adaptive reuse. <br />Completed final(?) draft of Camp Tannadoonah letter.
