Washington, South Bend, Indiana.
We recently were notified of construction activity to replace the windows on the rear porch. We had an
opportunity to verify that the existing wood windows in the rear porch and the associated trim were
replaced with new vinyl windows and pine trim. This replacement is prohibited by the terms of the
Easement and was not approved prior to the work starting.
We are also aware that you have been directed to apply for a Certificate of Appropriateness from the
Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County for the work. We feel it
important to let you know that we are opposed to any approval of the vinyl windows and associated pine
trim that has been installed.
We have appreciated your commitment to this important National Historic Landmark building and are
hopeful we can work out an amicable solution to this violation.
Regional Office
CC.
