Green space
At the time of property purchaseIn the former location of
the barn remained a pit as shown in the image. This space
was was a blight, and in fact was a hazard due to some
rebar and blocks that occupied the center area. In heavy
rains, it retained water that would remain standing for
more than a week. A pile of boulders, presumably from
the foundation of the barn, were in a pile
away from this pit. In the appropriateness of barn
removal, the restoration of this area would have been a natural restoration requirement.
Former barn site (pit) at the time of pre -purchase
viewing
Vision
The vision was for this area was to restore it to cosmetic fashion, and become a level green space.
Process
The height differential between the driveway parking area and the lower ground beyond the former
barn site had to be reconciled. It was decided to repurpose the boulders into a retaining wall that would
match the ground level of the drive parking area. This initial wall work was completed professionally
and followed with back fill of clean dirt. Soil from the gravel drive clearing (see separate project) was
used to finish the top of the green space before seeding. The flat space without a border was deemed a
falling risk for people on the property, so a perimeter of stone
was created. This perimeter was enhanced with perennials
and a small arbor seat in period fashion. Tri -light light posts
of the same model and style as the light close to the main '
house, were added to the perimeter of the green space.
Switches and sourcing of electric were tied in with the s
restoration of the east side of the garage barn see separate i
project).
Stone wall built out of original barn foundation boulders.
