Written description of project:
1). The request is to allow for the addition of a fagade sign to be placed on the east face of the
JMS Building, located at 106 North Main Street, South Bend, Indiana. The proposed fagade sign
is for the recent tenant, Centier Bank who is occupying a portion of the JMS Building. Centier
Bank had previously requested and was approved to allow for a fagade signage on the north
face of the JMS Building by the Historic Preservation Commission.
2). The proposed fagade sign is shown on the attached diagrams. The sign was designed by
Vanadco Sign Company. The sign consists of the Logo for Centier Bank along with lettering which
spells out "Centier BANK". Shown on the diagram is the proposed sign raceway which will hold
the logo and the lettering. The logo and lettering will be placed in an aluminum frame with the
logo and lettering made out of white plastic faces. The copy area of the sign would be 32.43
square feet. The sign height would be approximately 90 feet above
the buildings first floor elevation.
3). The proposed sign is being placed on that portion of the building which is brick. The sign will
be affixed to the brick fagade per the latest building anchoring techniques' and as approved by
the City's Building Department and City Building codes. This portion of the JMS Building east
fagade contains no terra cotta materials that are located mostly on the south and west facades
of the building.
4). The proposed sign will not have a negative impact on the historic architecture of the existing
building. The proposed fagade sign was purposely placed so as to not detract or interfere with
the historic terra cotta clad south and west building facades.
