Marquette Primary Center Existing Plans: <br />South Bend Community School <br />4 Corporation <br />....... .... _............ v <br />The New Marquette of 1936 was built behind and to the North of the <br />then existing single story wood framed six classroom school. The <br />School was constructed for $262,760 dollars with 45 % of the <br />funding coming from the Federal Government. The district paid the <br />balance of the cost out of savings without having to go out for <br />bonds. <br />The Architects Austin & Shambleau were hired in 1935 to design the <br />school. This firm also designed The Tower Building and James <br />Madison Elementary along with our present office building on Eddy <br />Street. <br />An eight classroom two story addition costing $296,789 was built in <br />1953 North of a smaller addition completed in 1948 bring the total <br />classroom up to 26. In 1963 the Tribune published Enrollments of <br />the district's schools and listed Marquette with 823 student in 29 <br />classrooms. <br />HEBARD & HEBARD Architects, Inc. <br />page 10 <br />
