5 October 2011 <br />Carole Schmidt, Interim Superintendent <br />South Bend Community School Corporation <br />215 South St. Joseph Street <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />RE: Marquette School <br />Dear Superintendent Schmidt, <br />Please be advised that the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. <br />Joseph County held a public hearing on 4 October 2011 to place Marquette School built <br />in 1936-1937 located at 1905 College, South Bend, IN 46628 under Interim Protection <br />while it files for its placement on the National Register of Historic Places. We have <br />enacted a.resolution to provide Interim Protection in the alternative; in the event that it is <br />determined that Ordinance No. 9807-07 does not ,protect Marquette School <br />Interim protection means that this structure cannot be moved or demolished for the next <br />six months. Interim protection also means that the exterior appearance of the building <br />and the building's site inky not be changed by alteration, reconstruction or addition. This <br />does not preclude painting or routine maintenance. Any additions; alterations or <br />reconstructions, including demolition must be reviewed and approved by this Office and <br />the Historic Preservation Commission prior to any building or demolition permits being <br />issued for this site. The authority for this action is the South Bend City Code Section 21- <br />13.02 subsection (d) 5 as the Commission may declare such proposed new historic <br />landmark to be under interim protection. A copy of this Ordinance may be obtained in <br />this office or the office of the City Clerk of South Bend during normal business hours. <br />Sincerely, <br />Catherine D.
