Historic Preservation Commission President's Report —'June 20th 2016 • 05/23/2016 7P: HPC Monthly Meeting (County -City Building; Room 1308). 05/24/2016 12N: Budget Review Meeting. Sat in on a budget reporting session between Mike Voll — Treasurer, Elicia Feasel — Exec. Director and Debra Parcell — Deputy Director. Discussion on the annual budget process and 2016 submission deadlines. Elicia will make improvements on requisition to better reflect standard accounting practices. • 06/03/2016 1:30P: Staff meeting (HPC Offices). Topics discussed: local landmark request for Elbel House, upcoming Agenda items, COA site inspection and miscellaneous. My Show and Tell: Schuyler Colfax memorabilia and stereoscopic views. Visit by Commissioner Hertel. • 06/07/2016 4:30P: (Common Council Conference Room; County -City Bldg.). Meeting with Tim Scott — President, South Bend Common Council. Others in attendance: Raphael Morton — President St. Joseph County Council, Todd Zeiger — Director Northern Regional Office; Indiana Landmarks, Elicia Feasel — Exec. Director HPC. Update on HPC recommendation for Local Landmark designation of 803 W. Washington Street. Heard suggestions for upcoming HPC presentations at each Council meeting. • 06/13/2016 12:30P: (Common Council Conference Room; County -City Bldg.). Meeting with Tim Scott — President, South Bend Common Council. Others in attendance: Raphael Morton — President St. Joseph County Council, Todd Zeiger — Director Northern Regional Office; Indiana Landmarks, Elicia Feasel — Exec. Director HPC, Jim Bognar. Discussion over aspects of Kizer Facade -Easement, current landmark initiative and requests for providing monthly agendas to each respective Council. Returned to HPC Offices for repair of intercom/access controller. Staff discussion over various activities. 06/15/2016 1:30P: "Proving the Product; Studebaker's Proving Ground" (Sudebaker National Museum). Presentation by Evie Kirkwood — Exec. Director St. Joseph County Parks & Andrew Beckman — Archivist, Studebaker Museum. A look back at the history of the proving grounds; now celebrating its ninety -year birthday. 2016 also marks the 50th Anniversary of the County Parks system. In 1966, Bendix Woods (our smallest County park land at 195 acres) was the first to be obtained by the newly installed Park Board under its President, Robert J. Fischgrund. My Great -Grandfather, Levan Van Paris was also a member of that board and was instrumental in negotiations behind -the -scenes to make Bendix Woods County Park, a reality. The Van Paris Shelter, on the premises, honors his contribution.
