It is a 2 -story rectangular brick house on a block <br />foundation and chimney on side, 6/6 double -hung windows and front door with sidelights. The gable roof <br />is covered with asphalt shingles. <br />ALTERATIONS: A back addition with a flat roof is non original. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: 8 -foot addition to rear kitchen wall to make a small mudroom allowing easier, <br />cleaner entry through back door to kitchen. Will use appropriate composite material to match the existing <br />wood siding. New window will be appropriate reproduction of existing windows. New door will be an <br />appropriate reproduction of the doors found on the original blueprints (owner possesses) of the house. <br />New flat roof membrane and repairs to water - damaged areas caused by existing roof and gutter not fitting <br />well. Adding low - height metal fencing of simple design to flat roof area as required by insurance. Low <br />platform deck of cedar planks to make dining room door accessible and provide access to mudroom door <br />to remedy extremely uneven grade of the yard by doors (as .5" drop from door to ground at dining room, <br />7' drop at kitchen). Deck will be a 6'x25' slightly enlarging existing patio space. No railing, low <br />platform steps surrounding all edges of deck. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: Homeowner proposes adding an 8' addition to rear <br />kitchen wall creating a new entrance. Addition will have new composite siding to match existing wood <br />siding; new window and door will be reproductions of existing windows and door. A 36" metal railing <br />will be installed around existing flat roof, per insurance requirements, height TBD and encompassing new <br />addition. New flat roof material will be installed on the existing flat roof and new addition. A new cedar <br />plank low- platform deck will be added around the addition, providing access to rear entrances. New construction should be designed considering the <br />appearance, scale, styles and setbacks of the other buildings in the neighborhood. New work may be <br />contemporary or may suggest motifs from historic buildings in the district. <br />A.
