CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />1. 129 W North Shore Drive COA #2016 -0705 West North Shore <br />Representation by Mary Ellen O'Connell, 129 West North Shore <br />Pat Lynch, 711 West Washington <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: 05 July 2016 <br />Application Number: 2016 -0705 <br />Property Location: 129 West North Shore Drive <br />Architectural Style/Date /Architect or Builder: Neo- Classical /1905 <br />Property Owner: Mary Ellen O'Connell & Pete Bauer <br />Landmark or District Designation: West North Shore LHD <br />Rating: Notable <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This 2 story plus attic Neo - Classical house sits upon a brick foundation. The <br />plan is square plus additions. Roof is gable ended with twin dormers on long fagade with asphalt shingles. Walls are aluminum <br />sided. There is a two -story front entry porch, triple corner columns with ionic capitals supporting a simple pediment with dentil <br />frieze. Windows are 35/1 wood double -hung throughout with trim concealed by siding. Front door is louvered, there are twin <br />sidelights with paneled spandrel. <br />ALTERATIONS: Siding and front door are not original. Owners have made many improvements to restore original details. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: 1. Remove aluminum siding & restore original wood siding; 2. Replace front door with historically <br />correct replica; 3. Refurbish windows, columns. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: 1. Millwood Roofing will remove non - original aluminum siding and restore <br />original wood siding; condition of wood siding is unknown at this time but owners have provided a vintage photo of the house <br />showing the original wood siding. 2. The new front door will be custom constructed of wood with glass and a panel below, <br />resembling the doors of nearby houses, examples provided. The new wood door will utilize the hardware from the current <br />louvered door. 3. Refurbishing original windows and columns is in -kind, routine maintenance. <br />PRESERVATION SPECIALIST REPORT: n/a <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />WEST NORTH SHORE <br />BASIC STRUCTURAL MATERIAL AND ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES <br />Preferred <br />Retain and maintain the original exterior building material. Frame Structures: Repair, repaint, and/or clean siding to deter <br />deterioration. Masonry Structures: Tuckpoint brick and stone, repair stucco and repaint trim, stucco and brick (if painted) to <br />deter deterioration. Retain and maintain architectural detail of structures such as wrought iron, tile, brackets, etc., or replace when <br />necessary with similar material in texture, size and appearance. <br />Permitted <br />
