STAFF REPORT
CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A
CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
Date: 6 October 2015
Application Number: 2015-1005A
Property Location: 815 Ashland
Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: T-Plan/1894
Property Owner: Diana and Randy Flopldns
Landmark or District Designation: Chapin Paris
Rating: Non -Contributing .
DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This is a two storey house with exterior walls that are clad in
aluminum and perma-stone. The roof is covered with asphalt shingles. There is an enclosed front porch with
siding to match to house and metal railings. There is a fence across the drive way.
ALTERATIONS: In 1945 there was a.5' x 6' addition to the porch. The house is aluminum sided and there are
replacement windows. There is.also a rear addition to the home with a wooden ramp. The fence was'added in 2009
with COA 2009-0922.
APPLICATION ITEMS: Our garage has fallen into disrepair due to rotting of the wood structure. It now leans
toward our neighbor driveway. We want to tear it down before it falls onto their cars.
DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: This garage has no architectural integrity and is in very poor
condition. The owners propose to remove the deteriorating structure, leaving the concrete floor in place. There is no
plan at this time to rebuild.
STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: Chapin Park
V.GENERAL
A. Buildings in the district should not be demolished except where a building poses a threat to the public safety,
and demolition is the only alternative. Documentation of interior and exterior features of the original buildings,
especially homes iated as historically significant, is encouraged. Measured drawings and photographs may be
submitted to the Historic Preservation Commission for safekeeping and fixture reference.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the proposed project.
, Elicia Feasel
Deputy Director
