HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
PRESERVATION SPECIALIST REPORT
March 16, 2015
Hello Commission!
Spring? Did someone say Spring? Finally, the weather is starting to change
around here! As we do every year, now is the time for event scheduling including but
certainly not limited to: tours, workshops, conferences, classes, and of
course... BIRTHDAY PARTIES! As you are all aware of the SB150 celebration will be
the unveiling of the 3D printed replica of circa 1925 Downtown South Bend. The reason
why I am even bringing this up is that we are offering the commissioners an opportunity
to volunteer a few hours over the course of the celebration weekend. We would love to
have members of the commission assist in the manning of the tent that this will be located
at to help answer questions and safeguard the secured display. We will be working on a
volunteer sheet later but wanted to let everyone know about this as early as possible.
Once again I will be presenting a lecture/slide show on Wednesday at the
Studebaker National Museum on Mansion at 1:30. This has been a very broad topic so
there are quite of few properties to talk about in a very limited timeframe. This should be
a great event to gain some support for HPC.
. We will be attending the Parks Board meeting at 4 today to discuss the use of the
City Cemetery for the tour on May 9th as well as the lecture and volunteer cleaning days
on June 20th, July 18th, and August 15th. I will convey the results of that meeting during
the HPC meeting at 7pm.
Other than all that, as weather changes the calls for COA applications will come
through and we will be in our normal building season regimen. I am looking forward to
working with Code Enforcement as the new interim director has displayed a desire to
work together to correct problem properties. This is refreshing to say the least and we are
keeping our fingers crossed that this will be the case.
Thank you,
Steve Szaday
Preservation Specialist
HPCSBSJC
