Listed in order of priority (#1 is the first to buy). Beyond the prospect of making this
equipment available to the public, I firmly believe that this collection of tools provides the most efficient and
safe means for tackling common restoration projects. HPC workshops can benefit enormously from these tools.
The public will feel more comfortable in tackling difficult projects as DlYers.
Also important to know that Eco -Strip and American International Tool (makers of the PaintShaver) both post
rental pricing on their website. It would give us a good idea what to charge once we have tools to offer the
public. But until that day, we might be able to work out an agreement with these companies, let them handle
the tool rentals directly (or thru HPC) and WE get some commission for facilitating the transaction. Ideally, folks
walk into the HPC to rent equipment and get advice on their project. HPC could begin charging consultation
fees for private, on-site, hands-on instructionals. Then rents the recommended tools for the task and gets
commission for brokering tool rentals for equipment not maintained in our crib.
This has HUGE money -making potential!
1. Fein Turbo II Vacuum (lead paint capable). The Turbo I and Turbo III are different sizes of the same
technology. I found the Turbo II to be the MOST convenient/manageable size. It comes with a 16' hose. Has
incredible suction! This IS the prerequisite tool for ALL tools listed below. One of the quietest vacuums on the
market. VERY WELL ENGINEERED. The biggest bang for the buck among the competition (features/durability
vs price). But more than that, the accessory bags and HEPA filter (rarely needs replacing) for dealing with lead
paint are quite reasonable. I've seen packages as low as $350 on eBay. Full MSRP with all kinds of
accessories can be found anywhere between $500 and $600. 1 would be happy to scout around the internet for
the best value.
2. "Proscraper" htto://www.oldewindowrestorer.com/nroscraoer.html . Excellent tool that uses carbide long -life
scraper blades. Beware of imitations (that use blades of inferior metal alloy Carbon, Chrome Vanadium or High
Speed Steel "HSS"). This handheld scraper fits onto vacuum hose and sucks paint while scraping. I would
never be without one of these. Too handy. Great compliment to HEPA vac and Speedh eater. MSRP $40 full
retail.
3. "Speedheater" by Eco -Strip. Infrared heater that penetrates multiple layers of paint within 30+ seconds.
Lightweight. Works on flat or profiled surfaces. Slower than shaving but MUCH less messy. Minimal hazard.
Radiation penetrates below the surface and eradicates mold/mildew spores. $500 MSRP. I exchanged emails
with the owner a year ago. She said she could offer better pricing for government agencies and not -for -profits ;-
3a. "Silent Paint Remover" is made by another competitor but is supposedly less efficient because of inferior
bulbs (less radiation intensity).
file://C:\Documents and Settings\chostetl\Local Settings\Temp\XPgrpwise\54803229Interna... 2/4/2015
