On January 30, 2015, 1 received a call from Code Enforcement inspector Jeff Katona informing me that
they would be doing a site visit at 213 E South St to inspect for asbestos. He invited me to accompany
them to see for myself the condition of the property. He knew I had been inside the property previously
throughout the last several years when there were break ins.
I arrived at 1:30 walked through the three storey structure as well as the basement. The photographs I
took will show the deteriorated condition of the roof and the front porch in particular. I did not notice
any significant structural damage in the basement or cracks in the foundation. There is a significant
amount of garbage in the house and even some locations where it was obvious that this property was
being used by vagrants to sleep. We secured an open window that was on the west side of the house
that was obviously being used to enter the building. There is a beautiful fireplace surround, pocket
doors, hinged doors, trim work, and two amazing columns.
Please see the photographs located in the file under Taylor's Field, 213 E South. There is photographic
evidence of deterioration over the course of the last 3 years based upon the folders and their
respective timelines.
Steve Szaday
Preservation Specialist
