Principal Deb Martin and the Teaching Team at
Madison are turning the corner academically
For grades 1-3 Principal Deb Martin showed us data to support changes she made year
one are starting to impact student achievement in standardized tests with data in for
the first semester of her second year.
For first grade they started with 93°0 of students failing or on the bubble. By mid
year the figure drops to 74°0. (positive move of 19 percentage points)
For second grade they started with 89°o failing or on the bubble and at mid year
progressed to 74°0. (positive move of 15 percentage points)
For third grade they started at 73°o failing or on the bubble and at mid year
progressed to 47°o. (positive move of '27 percentage points)
In each year there is still a long way to go to the ultimate education attainment goal,
but the train is moving in the right direction and gathering momentum.
A final observation is the atmosphere in the school has really changed-- my first visit
the school scene was chaos and now it is quiet and orderly and an environment
conducive to learning.
91
