Schneider <br />Property Owner: Robert White <br />Landmark or District Designation: Chapin Park LHD/NR <br />Rating: Outstanding <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This is a two storey Prairie style home set <br />upon a rectangular brick foundation. The walls are stucco with two symmetrical one <br />storey bays on the east and west sides. The roof is a low hip with asphalt shingles and <br />wide overhand with moulded cornice. There is a three quarter width front porch with low <br />hip roof that extends out over the entrance and is supported by two free standing and two <br />engaged square wood columns on brick piers. There a several different window styles: <br />1/1 double hung, 6/1 double hung and casements with various muntin patterns. <br />ALTERATIONS: The asphalt roof is a replacement. The concrete porch floor is a <br />replacement. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Replace existing window unit on rear of house that was <br />damaged due to flooding from burst pipes with a modern window that will maintains and <br />replicates historical accuracy of existing. <br />DISCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The owner and contractor propose to <br />replace the deteriorated double casement system in the rear of the house. ( Please <br />see Preservation Specialist Report dated 29 January 2015 and photos) They <br />propose to replace one window with a Kolbe aluminum clad wood window that <br />will match the muntins and exterior moulding of the original. (Please see product <br />sheets) They also propose to block up the other opening to accommodate a <br />bathroom re -model and re -stucco the exterior to match the original surface. <br />(Please refer to Keith Micinski's project description). <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />CHAPIN PARK STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES <br />C. WINDOWS AND DOORS <br />Window and door frames are in most cases wood and vary depending upon the style of the home. <br />Many are double hung windows with wood trim and sills. Brick structures have stone sills and <br />brick lintels. In some cases where aluminum siding has been applied, the window and door trim <br />has been covered. About half of the structures in the district have aluminum storm windows; the <br />other half have wood storm windows. <br />Required <br />Original windows and doors shall be retained including sashes, lintels, sills, shutters, decorative <br />glass, pediments, hoods and hardware. When deteriorated beyond repair, they shall be replaced <br />with units and trim resembling the original. <br />
