CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />1. 507 Riverside Drive COA#2013-1115 River Bend <br />Representation by Larry Schohl, owner <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: 2 December 2013 <br />Application Number: COA#2013-1115 <br />Property Location: 507 Riverside Drive <br />Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: 1904/Free Classic <br />Property Owner: Larry Schohl <br />Landmark or District Designation: River Bend <br />Rating: - Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This is a 2 storey house with a square plan set upon a block foundation. The walls <br />are sided with aluminum. The full width front porch has decorative wrought iron roof supports and three fixed pane picture <br />windows with operable awning windows along their bases. The windows in the house are either single, double, triple or <br />quadruple aluminum awning style windows. The second storey front window has a large fixed central pane with by operable <br />sidelights and is shaded by an aluminum awning. There are three aluminum storm doors two of which are half view and one three <br />quarter view covering wood doors of various styles. The gabled roof is covered with asphalt shingles. <br />ALTERATIONS: The aluminum siding, storm doors and all of the windows are not original to the house. The wrought iron <br />porch supports are later additions. The current roofing material was added in 1993 with a COA. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Replace windows and storm doors per attached list and pictures. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The owner proposes to replace all of the fifty year old aluminum windows with <br />Vista Panorama custom made vinyl windows that would fit into the same openings. There will be 2 32 x 48 double hung, 2 32x <br />36 double hung and 2 34 x 48 double hung windows on the first floor along with an 18 x 36 casement window. The second <br />floor's large picture and sidelight assembly will be replaced with a central fixed pane and two double hung windows measuring <br />48 x 96. Also on the second floor there will be 2 32x 48 double hung windows and 1 casement 18 x 24 and 1 awning 32 x 26. <br />The casement windows and awning windows will not have muntins. All per listing and brochure pages. Michiana's Best Choice <br />Windows will remove all of the old windows/material and install the new windows with frames into the openings; the exterior <br />will be aluminum wrapped just inside the exisitng "J" channels and caulked off. The storm doors will all be replaced Comfort <br />Bilt "West Point" Storm Doors per brochure page. <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />II. EXISTING STRUCTURES <br />C. WINDOWS AND DOORS <br />Window and door frames are in most cases wood. Brick structures have stone sills and brick lintels. In some cases where <br />synthetic siding has been applied, window trim has been covered. Many structures in the district have aluminum storm windows. <br />Some houses retain wood framed storm windows. <br />Required <br />
