Becerril <br />Landmark or District Designation: Taylor's Field <br />Rating: Non -Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This is a one storey structure that is on a brick foundation. It has synthetic stone <br />siding on the front fagade and the rest of the house is now covered with clapboard style vinyl siding. The windows have been <br />replaced with double hung vinyl windows. The roof is covered with asphalt shingles. There is an open porch in the front with a <br />wrought iron railing and an open covered porch at the rear side of the house. <br />ALTERATIONS: There is very little evidence of the original fabric of this house. There was a verandah around the front of the <br />house of which the current location of the porch is a remnant. The 1998 Survey Card notes a rear addition with an enclosed <br />entry; and the house had aluminum siding and the synthetic stone. The concrete porch and stairs are not original to the house. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Vinyl siding on exterior of the house over wood siding. Replace 5 windows, 3 south side, 1 front and <br />I north with 4 double hung and 1 single pane. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The homeowner has installed vinyl siding and the windows all without building <br />permits or approved Certificate of Appropriateness. The projects were completed over a week end and then red tagged by the <br />building department. <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />Taylor's Field Local Historic District Guidebook <br />II. EXISTING STRUCTURES <br />A. BUILDING MATERIALS <br />Original exterior wall materials in the district include limestone, flagstone, stucco, clapboard, wood shingles, sandstone and <br />masonry block. In some instances, vinyl or aluminum siding has been applied over the original material. <br />Required <br />Original exterior building materials shall be retained. Deterioration of wood materials shall be prevented <br />through repair, cleaning and painting. The existing or original architectural detail around windows, porches, doors and eaves <br />should be retained or replaced by replicas of the same design and materials when deteriorated beyond repair. Masonry including <br />brick, limestone, flagstone, sandstone and stucco shall be cleaned only when necessary to halt deterioration or to remove stains, <br />and shall be done with a method acceptable for the preservation of the surface: i.e. low pressure water and soft natural bristle <br />brushes. No chemicals, sand blasting or other invasive methods may be used to clean historic buildings. When repairing stucco, <br />stucco mixture compatible in composition, color and texture shall be used. <br />
