HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
PRESERVATION SPECIALIST REPORT
March 18, 2013
Happy March! I hope everyone had a great St. Patrick's Day. The largest focus
of this last month was completing the City Landmark Surveys and getting them organized
to mail out. Yes, they are printed and all the mailing information updated. Unfortunately,
No they have not hit the mailbox yet, but hopefully they will be this week.
We have also spent a great deal of time working on the 106 reviews as both
rehabilitation and demolition approvals have required photographs to be taken and
documented (36 in the past 30 days). There are an alarming number of structures that are
also listed as contributing or significant in the structural survey. We actually had a
meeting today with code and members of the vacant and abandoned housing task force.
We can only hope that greater communication and cooperation may exist between
ourselves and the rest of the city.
On a happier note, we now have the flyers for the Restore Michiana Workshops!
To date we have 12 locations that have already posted those not including our partners or
sponsors. The response so far has been promising despite the HPC being left out of press
releases and other communication by Indiana Landmarks. Reservations may be made at
Eventbright.
Properties turned into code since last meeting:
607 Leland
611 Leland
706 Rex
750 Portage
735 LWE
2644 Western
211 N Walnut
Please remember that our first workshop will be Saturday April 6t' on Landscaping!
Steve Szaday
Preservation Specialist
