St. Joseph <br />Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: American Foursquare/1894 <br />Property Owner: Mike Baxter <br />Landmark or District Designation: Taylor's Field <br />Rating: Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: 2 storey plus attic irregular plan on stone block foundation. Siding is wood shingles. <br />Roof is a hip with hip dormers on sides, covered in asphalt shingles. A full front entrance porch features a side enclosure and a <br />second storey porch is centered in front. Windows are 1/1 double hung. <br />ALTERATIONS: A side entrance has been added. A large concrete block addition has been added on back (east) side. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Replace internal failed gutter system with new external seamless gutters. Profile of the new gutters <br />will not affect the dental work. Seamless gutters will not be lower than the fascia board. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: In addition to reroofing, per COA# 2013-0605 A&M Home Services will be <br />repairing the soffit and maintaining the original width. They would like to deck over the internal gutters that are not functioning <br />and are causing the soffit to rot, and proposing to install 5" K style aluminum seamless gutters and downspouts around the entire <br />house at the edge of the soffit, which will allow the ice and water to be installed at the edge of the roof. <br />TAYLOR'S FIELD STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />II. EXISTING STRUCTURES <br />A. BUILDING MATERIALS <br />Original exterior wall materials in the district include limestone, flagstone, stucco, clapboard, wood shingles, sandstone and <br />masonry block. In some instances, vinyl or aluminum siding has been applied over the original material. <br />Required <br />Original exterior building materials shall be retained. Deterioration of wood materials shall be prevented through repair, cleaning <br />and painting. The existing or original architectural detail around windows, porches, doors and eaves should be retained or <br />replaced by replicas of the same design and materials when deteriorated beyond repair. Masonry including brick, limestone, <br />flagstone, sandstone and stucco shall be cleaned only when necessary to halt deterioration or to remove stains, and shall be done <br />with a method acceptable for the preservation of the surface: i.e. low pressure water and soft natural bristle brushes. No <br />chemicals, sand blasting or other invasive methods may be used to clean historic buildings. When repairing stucco, stucco <br />mixture compatible in composition, color and texture shall be used. <br />Recommended <br />Whenever possible, the original building materials should be restored. Metal or vinyl siding may <br />be used when it is the only alternative to maintaining or replacing the original surface material. <br />
