Page I of I
Catherine I lostetler - 549 Edgewater
From: David Hoipkeniier <(Iavi(i.lioipkeinierCa;'giiiail.coni>
TO: <CHOs,rETI.,,C,.co,st-.josepli.iii.tis>
Date: 81/5/2012 7:44 AM
Subject: 549 Edgewater
Catherine.
It looks like the porch project is going to be postponed for awhile. Is there a time constraint associated
with the approval of Historical Commission?
In terms of the specifies, our desire is to return to the original porch as much as possible. From what we
can tell, this will at least include removing the windows, the two layers of tile on the floor, and the
lowered ceiling. We anticipate replacing the pine TG floor boards and putting a stained bead board oil
the ceiling.'I'lic interior of the enclosed porch is entirely stucco, but we don't know how much ofthat is
original, ie was any of it brick, given the rest of the exterior. The enclosed porch also includes painted
trim and outlets, which need to be dealt with. A potential problem is the fact that though the center
supports for the house roof were riot there originally (on either side of the stone door), they may have
become structural over time and will need something to be there, part of the new porch. We don't
anything structural in the middle, but it may be required.
A more formal plan would need to be delayed until a later meeting wlien we will have a chance to do
niore investigation about Nvliat the original porch looked like. Is there a possibility that you could send us
a copy of the photograph that YOU fOlind? It might be helpful in figuring out the original look for the
interior porch wall.
We will be moving in and getting settled throtioli Labor Day in all likelihood, and will riot be able to
begin oil the porch specifically until after that.
Please let us know what you else you need in terms of gaining the Commission's approval.
gaining
David I-loipkemier
2
fi1(n`iC-\Docurnents and Scititi(-,S,.,,cliostetl*"I.-octI Settili,,,s\'*I.'ellip\Xf,gii)wise 501 E2474SJ(*.-... 8/61 012
