Original doors, windows, and hardware shall not be discarded when they can be restored and reused in place. New window and door openings which would alter the scale and proportion of the building should not be introduced. Inappropriate new window and door features, such as aluminum and insulating glass combinations that require removal of the original windows and doors, shall not be installed. Not Recommended Awnings, hoods or fake shutters made of metal, vinyl or fiber glass should not be used if they would detract from the existing character or appearance of the building. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval to allow the artificial siding to be removed. From the Standards and Gu "Whenever_ possible, the original building materials should be restored. Metal or vinyl may be used as an - - alternative to maintaining or replacing the original surface material when it resembles the original surface material. When used over wood surfaces, this siding should be the same size and style as the original wood." Depending on condition of the original siding, to be determined by HPC Preservation Specialist, Staff recommends rehabilitation of the original siding, if possible. If rehabilitation of original is not possible, Staff recommends approval of the proposed vinyl siding. While it is not known whether or not if the front entry door is original, Staff does not recommend replacement of the full light door with a solid style door; recommendation is to make necessary repairs to the existing door, if possible, or to replace with a new full light door, to be approved by Staff. - Prepared by Elicia Feasel, Assistant Director Applicant amended application to repair the front door, if possible; in the event that it cannot be repaired, front main door will be repaired in -like kind and materials.
