Original doors, windows, and hardware shall not be discarded when they can be restored and reused in place. New window and <br />door openings which would alter the scale and proportion of the building should not be introduced. Inappropriate new window <br />and door features, such as aluminum and insulating glass combinations that require removal of the original windows and doors, <br />shall not be installed. <br />Not Recommended <br />Awnings, hoods or fake shutters made of metal, vinyl or fiber glass should not be used if they would detract from the existing <br />character or appearance of the building. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval to allow the artificial siding to be removed. From the Standards <br />and Gu "Whenever_ possible, the original building materials should be restored. Metal or vinyl may be used as an - - <br />alternative to maintaining or replacing the original surface material when it resembles the original surface material. When used <br />over wood surfaces, this siding should be the same size and style as the original wood." Depending on condition of the original <br />siding, to be determined by HPC Preservation Specialist, Staff recommends rehabilitation of the original siding, if possible. If <br />rehabilitation of original is not possible, Staff recommends approval of the proposed vinyl siding. While it is not known whether <br />or not if the front entry door is original, Staff does not recommend replacement of the full light door with a solid style door; <br />recommendation is to make necessary repairs to the existing door, if possible, or to replace with a new full light door, to be <br />approved by Staff. <br />- Prepared by Elicia Feasel, Assistant Director <br />Applicant amended application to repair the front door, if possible; in the event that it cannot be <br />repaired, front main door will be repaired in -like kind and materials. <br />Comment from Tom Anderson 535 Riverside Drive <br />On a motion by Dave Steinhauer with a second by Tom Gordon to approve application as <br />amended to allow only the removal of asphalt siding and to repair the front entry door or to <br />replace with like kind materials. <br />Vote: 7 — 0 Unanimous. <br />COA #2013 -0805A Approved with Conditions. <br />B.
