Inappropriate new window and door features, such as aluminum <br />and insulating glass combinations that require removal of the original windows and doors, shall not <br />be installed. <br />Not Recommended <br />Awnings, hoods or fake shutters made of metal, vinyl or fiber glass should not be used if they <br />would detract from the existing character or appearance of the building. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval to allow the artificial siding; <br />to be removed. From the Standards and Guidelines, "Whenever possible, the original <br />building materials should be restored. Metal or vinyl may be used as an alternative to <br />-- -- maintaining or replacing; the original surface material when it resembles the original <br />surface material. When used over wood surfaces, this siding should be the same size and <br />style as the original wood." Depending on condition of the original siding, to be <br />determined by HPC Preservation Specialist, Staff recommends rehabilitation of the original <br />siding;, if possible. If rehabilitation of original is not possible, Staff recommends approval <br />of the proposed vinyl siding. While it is not known whether or not if the front entry door is <br />original, Staff does not recommend replacement of the fitll light door with a solid style <br />door; recommendation is to make necessary repairs to the existing; door, if possible, or to <br />replace with a new full Iight door, to be approved by Staff. <br />- Prepared by Elicia Feasel, Assistant Director <br />
