Emee and Robert Miller <br />Landmark or District Designation: East Wayne Street <br />Rating: Non -Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: The Colonial Revival house is situated on a corner lot. <br />There is a second two storey addition to the south and a one storey addition that remodeled the <br />garage area to create additional living space. The gabled roofs are covered in asphalt shingles and <br />the windows are 8/8 double hung on the original house and 6/6 double hung on the additions double <br />hung. There is wood siding on the house and wood and synthetic siding on the additions. There is a <br />porch at the main entrance with an architectural pediment and pilasters the front door entrance <br />has side lights and a central fan light. <br />ALTERATIONS: The original 2 storey Colonial Revival house was built in 1948 with a breezeway <br />connecting the house to the garage. The exterior walls had wood siding and the gabled roof had <br />asphalt shingles. The foundation is concrete. The two storey addition that enclosed the breezeway <br />was built prior to 1986, The 2007 one storey 1600 foot addition to the south and east of the house <br />along with the reorienting of the driveway was approved with COA 2007-0214. The front entrances <br />architectural enhancements were approved with same COA. The roof is a replacement and the <br />storm windows and doors as well. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Replacing existing stone patio with brick; adding a pergola over the <br />patio as well as over the gate entrance on Sunnyside adding a raised bed on the east side of patio <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The homeowners are going to replace the concrete <br />patio with brick pavers. There will be a flat topped pergola covering the patio with a raised brick <br />bed to the east for plantings. There will also be a flat topped pergola over the side entrance. The <br />rest of the items in the renderings are not going to be done at this time. <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: East Wavne Street: <br />B. BUILDING SITE, LANDSCAPING AND ACCESSORIES <br />Individual properties in the district are characterized by a house located in the center of a flat lawn, often divided by <br />a walk leading to the front entrance. Several of the residences are sited on two or more building lots; however, the <br />preponderance of the homes have been erected on a single lot. Most of the properties include a double garage, <br />usually located at the rear of the property. The majority of garages are accessed from straight driveways leading <br />from the main thoroughfare, while a few are accessed from the alley. There are also a few homes with a covered <br />carport located at the rear of the property, as well as a few with circular driveways. Driveway and sidewalk <br />materials include concrete, asphalt and brick. All of the properties have trees and most have trimmed shrubbery <br />and/or hedges. Most of the houses conform to a uniform setback line within each block. <br />Required <br />Major landscaping items, fencing, walkways, private yard lights, signs (house numbers) and benches which reflect <br />the property's history and development shall be retained. Dominant land contours shall be retained. Structures such <br />as gazebos, patio decks, fixed barbecue pits, swimming pools, tennis courts, greenhouses, new walls, fountains, <br />fixed garden furniture, trellises and other similar structures shall be compatible to the historic character of the site <br />and the neighborhood and inconspicuous when viewed from a public walkway. <br />Recommended <br />New site work should be based upon actual knowledge of the past appearance of the property found in photographs, <br />drawings and newspapers. New site work should be appropriate to existing surrounding site elements in scale, type <br />
