ALTERATIONS: The Marquee was approved (COA #2005 -0331) and installed in 2006; it replaced the modern Morris signage after the Palace sign was removed in 1960 when the E.M. Morris Foundation purchased the theatre. The original wood doors have been replaced over the years with aluminum doors and again with wood doors, some as recently asl998. The original stage house was removed and the modern stage house was constructed to the rear of the building with COA# 1998 -0129. The entry doors were replaced and the windows restored with COA #2011 -0401 APPLICATION ITEMS: To install a 36 square foot temporary replaceable sign on the rear of the facility above the stage loading dock doors. Allowing these identification signs will not be injurious to the public health, safety, morals and general welfare of the community. Placement of this sign is for promotional purposes. The facility sets far enough off Main Street to constitute a sizeable presentation. The sign will also help identify access to the back side of facility off Main Street, helping patrons identify with events. DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT. The Management of the Moms Performing Arts Center proposes to install advertising signage in a 10'x30' display area above the rear loading dock entrances. The sign will change with the events. Please see attached renderings by Art Works Sign Company. STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: The Commission has the authority to determine the architectural merits and the extent of any proposed treatment, renovation, or addition to a historic landmark. The commission will require drawings, plans, specifications, and/or samples where appropriate. F. Siens No neon or flashing signs will be permitted unless they are original to the structure. Billboards and super - graphics will also be disallowed. Only one appropriate identifying sign will be permitted per business. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval as the sign will be located at the rear of the Center and on a fagade that is not considered architecturally historical.
