Awnings, hoods, and fake shutters made of metal, vinyl, or fiberglass should not be used if they would detract from the
existing character or appearance of the building.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: No one is quite sure if the current windows are original to the house. The survey
card indicates a 6/6 double hung pattern, while what is currently on the house is a mix of 6/6 on the second floor and
8/8 on the first floor in addition to other muntin patterns. Staff was unable to do an interior inspection of the windows;
however what staff could observe from the exterior was that cosmetically the front first floor windows appeared to be
OK. However, Bob Grant of Bob Grant Construction, Inc. performed an interior inspection and concluded that the
windows require extensive repairs and that five of the fourteen are of an inferior quality. Staff recommends approval of
the replacement windows.
From April 18, 2011 meeting:
[On a motion by Linda Riley with a second by Jerry Niezgodski to continue application
pending closer inspection of windows by staff. Vote: 6-0
COA 2011-0404 was continued.]
From the May 16, 2011 meeting:
On a motion by Todd Zeiger with a second by Lynn Patrick to continue application with
adequate time for homeowner to provide photos of the interior of the windows only
showing condition of the sash, jamb, and sill, keyed to window location photo and an
example of the proposed replacement system so we can see exactly what it is that is being
proposed and to explore sash packs. Vote: 5-0 Commissioner Rossow absent.
COA 2011-0404 was continued with conditions.
B. NATIONAL REGISTER NOMINATION
III. HEARING OF VISITORS
None
IV.
