STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: June 6, 2011 <br />Application Number: 2011-0606 <br />Property Location: 304 South Twyckenham Drive <br />Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: Colonial Revival/1929/ H.R. Stapp/ <br />Whitcomb & Keller <br />Property Owner: Aimee and Kevin Buccellato <br />Landmark or District Designation: East Wayne Street LHD <br />Rating: Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This is a two storey frame Colonial Revival <br />home with a rectangular plan, flared gable asphalt shingle roof with three gable inset <br />dormers at the front. The porch roof extended from the main roof supported by square <br />box columns with mold trim as capital. There is a central entry with sidelights. There is a <br />two car garage wing with molded trim cornice, wood balustrade on the flat roof. <br />ALTERATIONS: COA 2009-0505 renovation of kitchen to include the replacement of <br />existing rear entry porch (demolition) with a new +/- 80 square foot interior dining <br />porch/mud room approved by Commission. Enclosed arched area at rear garage was <br />noted on survey card. Raised deck added in rear of house off of rear arched porch. <br />Removal of 4 non -conforming pine trees in front of house and 1 deciduous tree in tree <br />lawn approved by Commission September, 15, 2008. Addition of rear bay area on <br />second storey approved by Commission in November 17, 2008. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Installation of three new fences: A -Replace existing chain <br />link fence at rear yard with custom cedar fence. B -Install new custom cedar fence at <br />North and East boundary of side yard. C -Install new stockade fence at South border of <br />side yard. Installation of new, custom circular window at gabled end of North elevation <br />of house. Window being added to help daylight new storage area in attic of den. <br />Window to be Marvin wood Casemaster. A moulded round arch trim exists over front <br />door. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: This house is the last house in the <br />district on Twyckenham, whereas the house immediately South is not in the district. <br />Fence (A), per drawings and photographs provided by the homeowners (Pages 2-4), is a <br />proposal to replace the existing 5'-0" high chain link fence in the rear of the house in the <br />same footprint. Proposed slat fence is all cedar material, standing 3'-9" high with 4x4 <br />cedar posts standing 4'-1/2" high. Two custom cedar gates with wrought iron hinge and <br />latch hardware will replace existing chain link gates in same footprint. This fence is <br />mostly shielded by neighboring shrubs. Finish will be stained linen white. <br />
