Director's Report <br />April, 2011 <br />21 March On site visit to 543 Edgewater about two Spruce trees being removed <br />without a COA. Spoke with Arborist and he said that the first one's top was (lead from an <br />ant infestation and the second one was also decaying from a split in the back at the back <br />Regular monthly HPC meeting. Arranged 24 March meeting at 1615 E. Wayne at 10:00 <br />to assess roof and roof replacement. <br />22 March Personal Day. Attended Patrick Furlong's History of South Bend Class. <br />23 March Followed up with Diane Bennett (292 1710) on 1130 E. Wayne window <br />inquiry; left message. Left message with Doug Tumock (250 -4805) Meeting with Tim <br />Klusczinski concerning 850 Forest and Michael Voll as a Mayoral Appointee. Sent letter <br />to Mayor requesting appointment with Mr. Voll's letter and credentials. Met with Susan <br />Youens and issued an RME for in -kind roof repair, replacement of metal flat roof; also <br />arranged with Tim to have her meet with David Steinhaurer and himself concerning her <br />ventilation issues. Her garage doors are now one hold for the time being. Worked on <br />reports. Followed up with Kathleen Sobecki on the February Location report issues. <br />24 March On site visit to 1615 E. Wayne with realtor Steve Bizzaro, Wayne Doolittle <br />and Elicia Feasel concerning die roof. It is in need of being replaced. It has thick slate and <br />would need to be replaced with a product that could recreate the look since the roof is <br />twice the size of the facade. Wayne and I drove around and reviewed other roof <br />replacements in the area. On site visit to 1130 E Wayne with realtor Diana Bennett and <br />Wayne Doolittle concerning the steel casement windows that she felt needed to be <br />replaced. Wayne thought they could be repaired and suggested Mike Weides could give <br />her an assessment. Staff attended Lunch and Learn for an excerpt of the Roger Chrastil <br />play "The Immigrant ". Prepared CLG Support letters for the Mayor and President of tlhe <br />County Commissioners for 2010 Report. Sent Contractor Listing to Diana Bennett and <br />Steve Bizzaro. Contacted Crews Perkey (277 -7110) about the use of Type N mortar on <br />First United Methodist Church versus lime putty with proper aggregate. Did not <br />recommend the use of Type N because of the Portland cement content. Researched the <br />N. Roy Shambleau project from 1979, called Jeanne Denham, HPC Researcher in 1979, <br />and Don Sporledcr NDU Arch. Prof. to determine if the book was ever published or if the <br />research notes were still around. Perhaps Office could pick up the project and complete it. <br />25 March Submitted Payroll. Researched Milburn Chapel for Ran(]) Ray. The First <br />Swedish Baptist Church on Napier Street is not the Milburn Chapel. That was demolished <br />to make way for St. Stephen's Hungarian RC Church built in 1909. Worked on the CLG <br />Report. MetJeanne Denham and asked about the Sliambleau project. She is almost blind <br />now and her daughter said that she would look to see if anything was at the house. Don <br />Sporleder stopped by with information on last year's Church Tour for me to copy. Also, <br />put me in touch with Notre Dame Architecture Library for Sliambleau resources. <br />28 March Received COA application for 1414 E. Wayne the replacement of 14 <br />replacement windows. None of the information in our Office or in the Building <br />
