STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: September 7, 2010 <br />Application Number: 2010-0907B <br />Property Location: 633 N. Lafayette Blvd. <br />Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: Gabled-ell/1895 <br />Property Owner: Terri and John Califano <br />Landmark or District Designation: Chapin Park <br />Rating: Non -Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This two storey wood sided home is set <br />upon a T -plan foundation with bays on the north and south sides of the home. The <br />gabled roof has asphalt shingles. There is an enclosed entry porch. The windows are 3 <br />vertical sash/1 double hung with moulded crown trim. There is an attached garage and <br />wood deck at the rear of the house. <br />ALTERATIONS: The Assessor's Card states the date of this house as 1885, so there <br />have been both modifications and additions to the original structure. The addition of the <br />two bays were noted in the 1949 assessment. There is aluminum siding on the porch at <br />the rear side of the house. The garage and the porch were noted in the 1932 assessment. <br />The wood deck noted on the 2005 survey is a modern addition. The roof on the house is <br />an architectural asphalt shingle replacement of asphalt shingles. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Tree fell on the house/garage. Work is to demolish/rebuild <br />garage. Repair exterior. Remove aluminum siding on porch and replace with cedar to <br />match. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The applicants propose to rebuild the <br />attached garage <br />and rear deck. With the siding materials salvaged from the demolished garage they <br />propose to replace the aluminum siding on the porch and use the remainder to do repairs <br />on the body of the house. They have discussed the change in the dimensions with Mark <br />Lyons, Building Department and it meets City Code. They propose to construct an Ultra <br />Deck Fusion wood free standing 11x14 rear deck. The enlarged garage will tie into the <br />original house. It will be a wood frame construction on a new concrete pad with a gable <br />roof re -roofed in asphalt shingles to match the architectural shingles on the main body of <br />the house. The wood siding will also match the siding on the main body of the house. <br />The porch door will be replaced with a steel security door and the garage door will be a <br />solid raised panel overhead door.
