Certificate of Appropriateness Application
1231 E Wayne St S
Karakatsanis/Swarts'
We are requesting a Certificate of Appropriateness for two proposed changes:
1)- To remove two rectangular glass block windows on the east side of the house.
These windows are not original to the house, but appear to have been added during a
kitchen renovation in the 1950s. We propose to close these windows as part of interior
kitchen work. The spaces will be framed in and insulated, with cedar shakes added to
match the existing siding.
Seepage six of Peacock and Co. estimate and photos of the east side of the house.
2) To replace windows in the three -season room, close door space and insert window.
This three -season room is on the west side of the house and was originally an open porch.
It was closed in and windows added, presumably in the 1950s or 1960s. We propose to
replace the existing aluminum jalousie windows with double hung wood windows. With
double hung wood construction and grilles in the upper panes, these windows will closely
match the original double hung windows in the rest of the house. We also propose to
remove the existing aluminum door on the north side of the room, replacing it with the
window as elsewhere in the room.
See page eight of Peacock and Co. estimate, window description from Marvin Windows
catalog, and photos of the three -season room.
