South Bend and St. Joseph County
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
227 WEST JEFFERSON BLVD.
SOUTH BEND, IN 46601-1834
:unothyS. Klusczinski, President
22 September 2010
Georges Enderle
710 Park Avenue
South Bend, IN 46616
Dear Dr. Enderle,
Phone: 574-235-9798 Fax: 574-235-9578
email: SBSJCHPC0co.st-joseph.in.us
A Certified Local Government
Catherine D. Hostetler, Director
londay I received a phone call from one of the neighbors about the large tree being removed in your back
yard. I went to your home and spoke with Kevin, the arborist, along with his crew, that you had hired to
remove the tree. Kevin informed me that the tree had been struck by lightening and was posing a danger to
the house. He provided the information and signed a COA application form for. the removal of the tree. I
am enclosing the COA for its removal for your records and ours.
In the future, please know that the removal of major landscaping items and large trees on the site require a
Certificate of Appropriateness application and approval. In situations like Monday's, the Staff can
immediately approve the removal of a tree with the professional opinion of an arborist that the tree is dead,
dying and/or posing a threat to the house.
Sincerely,
Catherine D. Hostetler,
Director
COMMISSIONERS
Linda Riley (Treasurer) Jerry A. Niezgodski (Vice President) Lynn Patrick (Secretary)
Sandra L. Rossow Todd Zeiger David Steinhaurer
