May 6, 2010
I visited the Curran house at 302 Sunnyside on April 19, 201 O.Tim Curran took me on a
tour of the home where I was able to look at most of the windows from the inside. Many
of the windows were painted shut and missing sash weight ropes. There were four
windows that were missing the lower sashes and others with missing or broken glass.
Most of the windows suffered by years of neglect and no storm windows. Many of the
mullions have pealing paint caused by moister. Some of the window sills were split but
repairable with Abatron. The missing sashes can be duplicated and the rest restored. I
visited with Steve Schoberg on May 5. 2010. His company has many years of window
restoration experience. It was also his opinion that the windows can be brought back to
their original appearance.
Wayne Doolittle
Preservation Specialist
South Bend and St. Joseph County
historic Preservation Commission
