In 46601
Re: North Station Suction Resemoir Demolition
Catherine,
The City of South Bend Water Works seeks permission to demolish the suction well
reservoir located on the property northeast of the North Pumping Station at 8307\.
Michigan. In the last six months, the have made masonry anti roof repairs whichrevealed
further building maintenance issues. We will continue restoration of the North Pumping
Station but must also consider the costs. We would appreciate historic preservation's
assistance in the varied aspects of this responsibility.
The suction well reservoir has been out of use fior over 70 years and has no practical
value to the South Bend Water Works. Because the suction well was constructed with the
same historic bark -faced 8" masonry units as the main building, the demolition of the
suction well would allow us to use the salvaged masonry to restore the main building.
We ask Historic Preservation for a favorable recommendation to abandon the water
suction reservoir, Thank you for your consideration.
ReT dL I •X
jollI X
Nriltrout
C'Cx c"Okc
