Paula Elliott <br />Landmark or District Designation: Local Landmark <br />Rating: Notable <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This two storey Italianate has a <br />rectangular floor plan with bearing wall construction set upon a stone foundation with a <br />brick fagade that is painted white. There is a flat or very slightly pitched roof with <br />cornice board and double brackets. All windows are round arch; there are six pane <br />windows on the second storey and 1/3x2/3 on the first, all with shutters. The central <br />entrance has double wood raised panel doors with a fanlight and an arched brick <br />surround. There is a brick chimney centered on the south side of the house. The house is <br />set back from US 31 and has a central circular, paved drive that is landscaped with <br />shrubbery and trees. There are older out buildings of undetermined date on the site: a <br />milk house and animal shelter and well house towards the rear as well as modern <br />buildings: a house and garage at the rear of the property and a garage on the west side of <br />the Italianate house. <br />ALTERATIONS: The 1975 survey card notes that a small porch was removed. The <br />location was not noted. The bank barn burned in 1985. . <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Place monument sign list tenants. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: Per illustration provided, the painted <br />aluminum sign would be placed between brick pillars positioned east and west and <br />situated at the north of the circular drive entrance near US 31 South. The finish on brick <br />pillars would mimic the main fagade of the house. The sign would not be illuminated. <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />Group.B Standards: B. Treatment: treatment shall be defined as any change of <br />surface materials that will not alter the style or original form. Such improvements <br />include re -roofing. Glazing or landscaping lawns and may involve a change that can <br />potentially enhance or detract from the character of the landmark. A treatment change of <br />any surface whether on the landmark or in its environment may require a Certificate of <br />Appropriateness if it significantly alters the appearance of the landmark. Although these <br />kinds of changes may not require a Building Permit, A Certificate of Appropriateness <br />may be necessary. The commission should review the proposed treatment for character <br />and style consistency with the original surfaces. F. Signs: No neon or flashing signs will <br />
