s .W <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: 12.6.2010 <br />Application Number: 2010-1206A <br />Property Location: 537 Edgewater Drive <br />Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: Colonial Revival/1921/ Whitcomb & <br />Keller <br />Property Owner: Joseph and Judith Pietrzak <br />Landmark or District Designation: Edgewater Place <br />Rating: Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: 1 %z storey rectangular plan plus <br />appendages on a brick over concrete foundation. Roof is a side gambrel with major <br />dormer along front, all covered in asphalt shingles. Porch features 4 heavy scaled Doric <br />columns supporting a simple eave of low slope porch roof. Front door is a single leaf <br />glazed wood panel door with multi light side lights. Windows are 6/6 double hung. <br />There is a semicircular headed fan opening in attic gables. Basement windows are glass <br />block. <br />ALTERATIONS: Aluminum storm windows and door. Aluminum siding. Some <br />replacement windows. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Replace 2 rear (South) and 1 rear (East) windows with <br />double hung white mutton sashed windows 6/6 Marvin wood double hung, exterior <br />aluminum clad. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: <br />The locations of proposed windows are on a back addition to the house that was <br />converted to living space from a garage. The existing windows have been restored 4 <br />times within the last 40 years, are letting in cold air, and are not capable of another <br />restoration, as stated by homeowner. Homeowner proposes to install 3 Marvin window <br />inserts, locations noted in application items. Already replaced on the house are 2 <br />windows at the top of stairs in rear and windows on the left side in front. Replacement <br />windows will have same muntin (grille) pattern as existing windows. Grilles are snap in <br />from the interior and are removable. Materials are clad exterior with wood interior. No <br />wrap will be used on exterior. Existing storm .windows will remain on. Light visibility <br />will decrease by approximately 1 inch on each side. <br />EDGEWATER STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />II. EXISTING STRUCTURES <br />C. WINDOWS AND DOORS <br />Window and door frames are in nearly all cases wood. Brick structures have stone sills <br />and brick lintels; masonry block structures have masonry sills and lintels. In some cases <br />where aluminum siding has been applied window trim has been covered. About half of <br />the structures in the district have aluminum storm windows, the other half wood storm <br />windows. _ _ <br />
