MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF SOUTH BEND & ST. JOSEPH COUNTY August 25, 2010 HPC Office Conference Room 125 S. Lafayette Blvd. South Bend, IN 46601 I. CALL TO ORDER: President Klusczinski called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m. Members Present: Timothy S. Klusczinski, Lynn Patrick, David Steinhauer, Sandra Rossow, Todd Zeiger Members Absent: Linda Riley, Jerry Niezgodski Staff Present: Catherine Hostetler, Director Members of the Public Present: none II. PUBLIC HEARING: A. CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS STAFF REPORT RIVERVIEW GATE HOUSE LIGHTING Bartow Builders has submitted its proposal for the lighting around the Gate House and for the ceiling of the porch. Bartow Builders has submitted the following per the Commissions instructions in April, 2010 that the porch ceiling light to be a fixed fixture on the period rather than recessed and that the post lights height and style details and porch lights come back for further commission discussion under existing COA #2010 -0401 A. Bartow Builders is proposing 8 foot posts and 30x14" Acorn style lamps for the five locations in the west, north and south sides of the house. Two lamps posts will flank the walk way; two will be placed on either side of the landscaping on the south side and one will be placed on the north in front of the landscaping of the building. A sixth lamp post will be positioned in the rear of the building next to the air conditioning units this will have the same Acorn lamp but will be fixed on a ten foot post. (See product information) The proposal for the porch lighting if the installation of 6 flush mounted lanterns. They have selected the 9x 8.5" Westlake Cast 1 Light Outdoor Ceiling Mount in Black with clear glass. (See Product information) Applicant was amenable to modifying COA adjusting it for the preference of the Commission to globe style lighting style instead of acorn. On a motion by Todd Zeiger as amended to direct staff to work with the applicant to take a final look at a milk glass white style globe on the submitted post fixture with a modification that was agreed to by applicant for a similar matching globe 8 -10" flush mounted to the porch ceiling with finish to match post fixture with a second by Sandy Rossow Vote: 5 -0 COA 2010 -0401A was approved with a unanimous vote STAFF REPORT CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS Application Number: 2010 -0819A Property Location: 1204 East Wayne Street North Architectural Style/Date /Architect or Builder: Modem/1954 Property Owner: Debra and Jon Gaul Landmark or District Designation: East Wayne Street Rating: Non- Contributing DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This 1954 Modem home is situated on a wedge shaped lot across from the triangular esplanade.
