STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval since the windows are in <br />the rear and will match previously approved application to front of house. The original <br />windows will be saved. <br />On a motion by Linda Riley with a second by Jerry Niezgodski the <br />Commissioners voted unanimously to approve COA 2009-0831A as presented. <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: September 1, 2009 <br />Application Number: 2009-0901 <br />Property Location: 1043 Riverside Drive <br />Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: Shingle/1908 <br />Property Owner: Michael Nelses <br />Landmark or District Designation: Riverside Drive <br />Rating: Notable <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: The property at 1043 Riverside consists of <br />a 2 1/2 storey frame home set upon a square floor plan with a two stall garage situated at <br />the rear of the property along a north/south alleyway and bounded on the south by an <br />east/west alleyway. The house is set upon a concrete block foundation. The walls of the <br />house are wood shingle with board trim. The roof is a high hip has a right gable <br />projection with gable returns. The roof is covered with asphalt shingles. There is a full <br />width front porch with shingled posts and walls. The windows are 1/1 double hung. <br />There is a nine pane attic window in the gable. The two stall garage has wood flush <br />siding and low hipped roof, there are 2/2 windows on both the east and west side; a pair <br />of restored original sliding doors,on the east stall and an overhead door on the west stall <br />opening. <br />ALTERATIONS,: The aluminum storm windows have been added on the house. In <br />2003 the entire garage was repaired and restored (COA42003-0515-2). The overhead <br />door on the garage is a replacement. A new roof was installed with COA#2005-0623-04. <br />The fencing is not original to the house. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: 1. Relocate Garage Door from cross alley access to back <br />alley access with a new 14' garage door opening. 2. Take existing siding from back and <br />enclose existing garage door opening. 3. Remove concrete driveway and replace with <br />grass and flower beds. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT,: The homeowner wishes to remove the <br />wood siding on the rear of the garage to install a new windowless paneled garage door <br />(Exhibit A), The non original overhead door currently on the front of the garage would be <br />removed and replaced with the wood siding from the rear (Exhibit B) and single entry <br />door salvaged from the house would be installed. The concrete drive area will be <br />removed and grass and flowers planted. A wooden privacy fence to match the current <br />one in the rear will be installed at a later date and is not part of this COA. <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: Riverside Drive <br />C.
