STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: October 30, 2009 <br />Application Number: 2009-1026 <br />Property Location: 1126 E. Wayne Street is a two storey <br />structure with an irregular plan set upon a concrete foundation. The exterior walls arc brick. It <br />has a slate gable roof with simple entablature and gable returns. One storey side wing with pent <br />roof at 2"`1 floor line carried around house. Gabie canopy entry with arch under and gable returns <br />with brackets, brick stoop. The windows arc double hung 6 over 1, brick soldier course lintels <br />and cast concrete sills. One storey rear enclosed porch, enclosed by vertical wood siding with flat <br />roof, concrete slab on brick. Two car brick garage with double swinging doors with windows, <br />slate gable roof with cornice and trim returns. <br />ALTERATIONS: None known <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Replace (2) garage doors (carriage style) with (1) carriage door. No <br />windows. Have not used for cars in 30 years (doors small). Want (1) door so is more able to be <br />utilized for cars. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The homeowner has engaged Raybuck <br />Construction to replace the existing garage doors with a single, insulated overhead door in a style <br />sympathetic to the existing carriage doors, trim and hardware, sec style P2C. The proposed <br />garage door will not have the windows as in existing, presumably for safety precautions. <br />Homeowner states that the new garage door will be, "more conducive to being used for our autos <br />and more accessible by me." <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />11. EXISTING STRUCTURES <br />C. WINDOWS AND DOORS <br />Window and door frames are of wood or steel (some casements) or in the case of brick structures, <br />stone sills and brick lintels. Where metal or vinyl siding has been applied, window trim has been <br />covered. Storm windows arc of wood or aluminum. <br />Required <br />Original windows and doors shall be retained including sashes, lintels, sills, shutters, decorative <br />glass, pediments, hoods, and hardware. When deteriorated beyond repair, they shall be replaced <br />with units and trim resembling the original. <br />Recommended <br />Wood frame storm windows and doors painted to match the original should be used but should <br />not damage existing frames. If new sashes or doors are installed, the existing or original <br />materials, design, and hardware should be used. When metal storm doors are used, they should be <br />painted, anodized or coated to match the existing. When awnings are used they should be of <br />canvas material. <br />5 <br />
