Not Recommended
Awnings. hoods. and IAc shutters made of metal, vinyl. or Fiberglass should not be used if they wouW detract frorn
the existing character orappearance of the building.
STAFFRECOINIMENDATION: This project poses some issues as the Staffhas never seen a windoNv
systern quite like this one. The window frames are very narrow and therefore sash light is large. Clearly
the proposed double liting windows will niter the took of the house by reducing the size of the sash light
'Ind increaslllg the size of the firanic. Interior storms would not alleviate the teiiiperatLire.;*'inoistui-eJletklllg
problems kti„ith the firarnes. "S,,ish Packs"are.not an option since there would be no compatible frames to
insert them into, '['he installation of Casement Windows which have a narrower frame would alter the
took of the house ,is Nvell; and iii,-iy increase the number of windows in eacli opening to two. The Office
called I [OPE'S Steel kVindows for all estimate for a 36” x 56— steel frame window in their residential
Landmark Series and was given the estimate of 53,500.00 per frame per window excluding the cost of the
double pane glass. That would give the base cost ofthis window replacement project at 570,000.00
excluding the cost of the glass panes and installation. Staffreconiniends approval of tile proposed
repkicc, nient windows in this nota -contributing house as all ecortornical solution to an original window
system I'llat does not appear to have an affordable in-kind replacement option.
