Director's Report May, 2009 April 23 Meeting with Karie Brudis, Assistant Director for Enviornmental Review, Adrienne Schmetzer, Historic Structures Review and Cathy L Draeger, Archaeologist from the DHPA to discuss the specific language and terms for the Programmatic Agreement between the City of South Bend, the Indiana State Historic Preservation Officer the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. The language I recommended was to name HPC employees as the professional to assess HUD projects. April 24 Attended a presentation at Notre Dame University by Krupali Uplekar's Fourth Year Architectural Studio on the Revitalizing the Patterns of Saxon Village Architecture: Transylvania, Romania. April 27 Monroe School on-site inspection of masonry coating and window options with Commissioners. April 28 BSSB/Zoo/Parks Department meeting discussing the electrical system and the need for analysis and remedies and other timely issues. A future on-site walk through will be arranged. Presented the Ordinance at the County Council Committee meeting to reflect changes n the Assistant Director's method of compensation. April 29 Toured neighborhoods with Wayne, stopped at 1207 Riverside and photographed landscaping being performed without COA, photographed the current site conditions of the SOI Synagogue. Met briefly with Randy Ray concerning the SOI Synagogue and the city's self imposed deadline of June 12009 to move it to NICH and will set up a meeting. May 1 All Staff working off-site. Research between 9-3 the Oral Histories at the Jewish Federation. Research between 3:30-5:00 at St. Joseph County Library, Local History and Geneology. Concentration on Gilbert, Levy and Ciralsky families. May 4 Arranged for NICH Archives Intern to research local Jewish neighborhoods between 1880-1920 in the areas of William, Chapin, Western (Division) and Sample. Inspected the Conservatories with Martha Lewis in preparation of meeting with Parks. May 5 . Meeting with C.J. Cunningham concerning the SHPOs letter and recommendations for the round about at Ironwood and Auten. Prepared Staff reports for monthly meeting. May 6 Meeting with Mike Dyszkiewicz, Mike Miholich and Terry Conley and Martha Lewis to inspect the Conservatories with emphasis on the electrical systems and glass repair. Analysis from Mike Miholich on electric system will serve as basis for grant request from Lowe's. On sight visits for COAs on Navarre and Edgewater.
