(6/24/2009) Catherine Hostetler - Monroe Primary Center Ext Paint Investigation.pdf RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CORRECT COLOR MATCHING 1. Use the paint manufactures that are specified. Every paint manufacturer has proprietary color mixing systems. One color from one manufacture may or may not be accurately reproduced from another paint manufacturer's color system. 2. Give the painting contractor the color name and reference numbers and have the contractor submit draw -downs of the colors for approval. 3. Visually check to see if the draw -downs match the samples provided with the report. It is important to use draw -downs because a color reference from one fan deck or color card may not necessarily match the same color reference from another. Color samples can be made from different batch lots and different batch lots can have variations in their color samples. In addition, it is important to check the colors outside under natural daylight. This will insure the proper lighting conditions. 4. If the draw -downs do not match, ask for corrections and re -submittal of new draw -downs. 5. If no changes are needed, approve the draw -downs and request that a site sample be prepared. The sample should be done in-situ on the substrate it is intended to be on and checked under daylight conditions. The size should be a minimum of 12" x 12" This is the final checkpoint to determine the accuracy of the color match. 6. When the colors are approved, request the paint formulation for future reference and use.
