SPECIAL MEETING OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION July 27, 2009 1:05 pm, Dickinson Conference Room, St. Joseph Co. Public Library 304 S Main Street South Bend, IN 46601 President Klusczinski called the meeting to order at 1:16 p.m. Members attending: Jerry Niezgodski, Lynn Patrick, Linda Riley, Timothy Klusczinski, Todd Zeiger Staff attending: Catherine Hostetler The purpose of the meeting was to review the displays that Todd Zeiger, David Sassano and Linda Riley observed on-site at Monroe school on July 23, 2009 with members of the School Corporation and the architectural firm; and to render decision regarding those, including: the slate sample presented, the SW 7037 option for the coating of limestone, and the slate blue option on the windows. Color photographs depicting those displays were presented for consideration. Commission Zeiger verified that the photographs accurately reflect what was presented at that site visit except for a window shown in a photo which represents the color choice, but not the specific window choice. Commissioner Zeiger also verified that the consensus of those that conducted the site visit was that the color choices were appropriate and, in the case of the limestone coating, the color choice was is more reflective of genuine limestone rather than the stark white color which is extant. At the site visit, the ' architectural firm distributed the line drawings of the windows as requested. Director Hostetler emailed those drawings and hard copies were distributed. Motion to approve "Gravel Gray, #2127-30* of the Benjamin Moore Color Preview Line: Moved: Zeiger Second: Riley Vote: 5-0 *Commissioner Zeiger asked that the minutes reflect that this color choice is the result of the paint analysis done by the School Corporation, and that this color best matches what was identified as the historic color on the building. Motion to approve the masonry coating for the base pre -cast concrete and around the windows `Balance(d) Beige', #SW 7037 manufactured by Sherwin Williams: Moved: Riley Second: Patrick Vote: 5-0 Motion to approve faux slate `recipe' or pattern/percentage/mixture as presented while communicating a preference to the architect that the HPC preference is to remove the off white slates and replace them with light gray: Moved: Zeiger Second: Riley Vote: 5-0 As of this meeting, the HPC is still waiting for a report on the scientific analysis of the charcoal gray paint chip.
