It has a rectangular plan. The low hip roof with hipped gables on each side is covered <br />with asphalt shingles. The windows on the body of the house are double hung in various styles and include a <br />jalousie window on the west side; the windows in the attic appear to be original with six panes horizontal in each <br />dormer; the windows in the basement are replacement Wenco single pane. There is a full front porch with brick <br />walls and piers with concrete flooring and steps. <br />ALTERATIONS: The original wood shingle roof has been replaced with asphalt shingles. The <br />screened in front porch noted on the May, 1985 survey card has been opened. The May, 1985 noted that <br />the windows were double hung 1/1. The current windows in the house are not all 1/1; but some do appear <br />to be original with a 6/1/2/1 configuration. COA#2000-0428 allowed for the windows in the basement to <br />be replaced, along with a rear storm door and repairs to the front and rear porches. The trim around the <br />basement windows was not replaced. The jalousie window is a replacement as well. The storm windows <br />appear to be replacements. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: <br />To replace old windows with new high efficiency vinyl windows. Windows to match window pattern to existing <br />windows. Please see attached sketches and brochure. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: <br />The homeowner wishes to replace all of the windows with vinyl, thermo pane American Windows. American <br />Sunspace can replicate all of the windows that are in the house. The windows would be inserted within the casing <br />and trim work and reduce the light byl Yz inches all the way around the opening. The six pane dormer windows <br />would be sliding windows to allow for ventilation. The four 12 pane "swing -in" wood casements would be replaced <br />with four 12 pane "swing -out' vinyl casements. - The single pane wood "swing -in" casement in the back porch <br />would be replaced with a single pane "swing -out" vinyl casement. The basement windows would be "hopper" <br />windows to allow for ventilation as well. The jalousie window would be a 1/1 double hung window. The <br />homeowner would] ike all of the windows in the rnairi body of the house to be 6/L—The non -original -storm <br />windows would be removed. <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: <br />C. WINDOWS AND DOORS <br />Window and door frames are in most cases wood. Brick structures have stone sills and brick lintels. In <br />some cases where aluminum siding has been applied window trim has been covered. About half of the <br />structures in the district have aluminum storm windows, the other half wood windows. <br />Required <br />Original windows and doors shall be retained including sashes, linteIs, sills, shutters, decorative glass, <br />pediments, hoods, and hardware. When deteriorated beyond repair, they shall be replaced with units <br />and trim resembling the original. <br />Recommended <br />Wood frame storm windows and doors painted to match the original should be used but should not damage <br />existing frames. If new sashes or doors are installed, the existing or original materials, design, and hardware <br />should be used. When metal storm doors are used, they should be painted, anodized or coated to match the <br />existing. When awnings are used they should be of canvas material. <br />Prohibited <br />
