It has a <br />stone foundation with walls of shiplap clapboard siding with comer boards; the <br />entablature Ina-, paired brackets. The house has an asphalt shingle hip roof with gable <br />dormers NvIii Ic the tower in front has a mansard roof with wood shingles. There is a full <br />width wrap around front porch with pared Doric columns on stone piers supporting an <br />entablature with dentils and balustrade. The porch .has a flat rood. The windows are 1/1 <br />double hung and most have segmental arch molded crit abl at tires. The front door is wood <br />with a single leaded light' sidelights are leaded and there is a stained glass transom. (See <br />photo 41) <br />ALTERATIONS: The porch was added in 1901 to reflect the classical revival style in <br />vogue after the Colombian Exposition in Chicago. The metal finials at the comers of the <br />tower have been removed. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Reitirbisli/restore./retrofit existing window sashes in <br />() and 11 on second floor as described in annex. (See also previous restoration <br />in 2008.) Old glasses will be stored in basement. <br />DISCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The homeowner has engaged <br />Replacement Systerns *International Ltd. who proposes to Refurbish /Restore /Retrofit <br />existin- window sashes as follows: <br />1. Remove the sashes front the frames and label/mark.for identification. 2. Pickup <br />of sashes only from the job site and deliver the sashes to our shop. Redeliver to job site <br />and reinstall sashes into the original frames. 3. Remove the existing puttyand glass from <br />the sashes. 4. Strip the paint from the sashes. Where caustic chemical strippers are used <br />properly neutralize the wood prior to painting or epoxy reconsolidation to a litnius Ph of <br />5-8.5. 5. Restore the sash with two part epoxy wood consolidants as necessary and in <br />accordance with specifications and the U.S. liepartment of Interior Guidelines. 6. <br />Custom inill new window members /profiles to match existing where needed. 7. Route <br />sash pockets as required and reglaze with new sealed insulated glass (dual sealed). <br />Prime/scal glass pocket before installing insulated glass. Set glass with beveled wood <br />stops. S. Weatherstrip the operating sashes at the perimeter and meeting rails with <br />integral woven pile weatherstripping for maximum air tightness and durability. 9. Install <br />new Samson Red Spot sash cords and furnish additional sash weight ballast to balance <br />additional weight on the insulated glass. 10. Refurbish pulleys/hardware. 11. Prime and <br />finish paint all stripped, restored or new wood. <br />
