shakes are in good condition, I think that they're going to hold paint well. I'm not convinced that
this is the only route to go on this property. I think that it will paint well and it will continue to be
a nice historic property under those conditions.
Klusczinski: And may retain more of it's value too. .
Zeiger: Yes.
Riley: I wonder, and I know that you're not happy with this, but if it wouldn't be cheaper to have
it painted even twice than to have Ultra Tech completely do your house. I can be done well. If it
hasn't been painted in 15-20 years I think it's done very well. Granted, it needs some work.
Klusczinski: There are paint jobs that fail admittedly. And there are many that stick it out. There
are always reasons that paint fails. A competent contractor would be able to make an assessment
and make an analysis of insulation quality within the inner walls and some of the things that lend
themselves to the preservation of the house and increased value. It is a gem of a house and in a
historic district which typically does not have vinyl as an option which sets it apart and probably
undermines its credibility and that of the rest of the district in the same argument. Those are
some of my thoughts. Any other thoughts Commissioners?
Chase: Yes, I'd feel much better if we had an estimate for someone to do the house well in
painting. And if you need anyone to talk to, staff can give you plenty of people. I have a house
two doors down from myself and the man took the aluminum siding off, what was underneath
needed a little bit repaired, but now it is the most gorgeous house. Back to the original wood and
it's something that when you go to the original with the size of your clapboards here, you will
have a stunning house. But, you will devalue it if you put aluminum (vinyl) on it.
Klusczinski: Very good, if there are no other thoughts then we move on to a vote. Is there a
motion?
Zeiger: I move to deny 2008-0715A as not in keeping with the stated and adopted guidelines for
the district.
Riley: Second.
Klusczinski: Motion has been made to deny 2008-0715A and seconded. All those in favor of the
motion to deny, and you will also have to state your reason for that vote.
Meteiver: I might suggest then a roll call vote on that to run down the Commission members.
Klusczinski: Very good, would you like to start us off, Linda?
Riley: I vote to deny this application and recommend that he come back with some plans to re-
paint. I think that you'll find that you'll be happier in the long run and it will be worth more as
Todd said.
Klusczinski: Chair restates previous motion. Commissioner Riley votes in favor of the motion to
deny. In effect, denying the C of A. Timothy Klusczinski, I move in favor of the motion to deny
or vote in favor to deny. I do not believe that vinyl siding is in keeping with the guidelines of the
district and sets a precedent for something that is not typically used and would potentially
undermine the value of the property and in the district and the houses around it.
Zeiger: Todd Zeiger, I vote in favor of the motion to deny. I feel that the guidelines are very
clear that the original building material shall be retained and repaired or restored. And so I feel
that this is not in keeping with that.
Patrick: Commissioner Patrick votes in favor of denial because it is not in keeping with the
standards. I think that's enough.
Chase: Chase votes to deny the petition. Not enough options were presented at the meeting. If
we had an option on the painting and the residing we'd have something to really work with but at
this time we don't.
Klusczinski: C of A 2008-0715A is defeated by a vote of 5-0 in favor of a motion to deny. .
Moved: Zeiger Second: Riley
To deny 2008-0715A Approved 5-0
LGol
