LOCAL LANDMARK STANDARDS GROUP B
Building Site and Landscaping: Required: Major landscaping items, trees, fencing, walkways, private
yard lights signs (house number) and benches which reflect the property's history and development shall be
retained... Recommended: New site work should be based upon actual knowledge of the past appearance of
the property found in photographs, drawings and newspapers....
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the replacement of the stockade fence with the
new design. The new design is more sympathetic to the architectural style of the house and will be in the
same location (Exhibit B). Staff recommends the approval of the in-kind repair of the clapboards on the
carriage house as well.
Klusczinski: You're entitled to make a brief presentation for the record, state your name
and address for the record, please.
Dietz: Don Dietz, 1031 East Jefferson. Basically the fence is in poor shape, part of it is
falling down, and we'd like to replace it with a more solid fence as shown on the drawing
that I submitted. I have some bad shingles on the upper half of the carriage house that
need removed and replaced.
Klusczinski: Were there any questions for the petitioner?
Chase: Will this be painted or stained? The clapboards and the fence?
Dietz: Well, the clapboards will be painted to match the house. You won't even know
that they were replaced. The fence? My understanding is that it doesn't have to be
painted and quite honestly that is a debate that's still raging at 1031 E Jefferson.
Sassano: Material?
Dietz: The material will be wood.
Sassano: Cedar, or just treated... ?
Dietz: Probably treated. But more than likely it will be painted.
Patrick: Maybe I'm missing it, but is the current fence 6 ft high?
Hostetler: It's a stockade fence.
Patrick. Are those all 6 ft high?
Hostetler: Yes, and it's not original to the house at all.
Klusczinski: So another way to review this C ofA is that it's two almost in-kind
maintenance items.
Hostetler: He's changing the style of the fence.
Klusczinski: But the scale and the arrangement and the perimeter of the fence isn't
changing? Ok. Any other questions for the petitioner? Hearing none, we'll move to
Commission discussion. Anyone have any comments? Thoughts? Observations? Very
good. We'll move onto public hearing then. Any member of the public wishing to speak
in support of the current petition? Hearing none, is there any member of the public
wishing to speak in opposition? Thank you very much. Any other final thoughts before
we consider a motion? No thoughts? A motion then.
Chase: I move that we accept C ofA 2008-0523 as recommended by staff and as stated
by the owner.
Klusczinski: Motion has been made is there is a second?
Sassano: Second.
Klusczinski: Motion has been made and seconded any additional discussion? All in
favor? (Ayes are heard) Opposed? (Silence) Motion carries.
Moved: Chase Second: Sassano
Approval of 2008-0523 Approved 5-0
Application Number: 2008-0523A
Property Location: 1329 E.
