STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION. FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: July 9, 2008 <br />Application Number: 2008-0606 <br />Property Location: 631 LWE and 625 LWE <br />Property Owner: Verl Sheets and Eve M. Pierce as, Trustee of Eva M. Pierce Rev. Trust <br />Landmark or District Designation: Edgewater <br />Rating: non-contributing and a vacant lot <br />STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE/ 11STORIC CONTEXT: The house was built in 1900 by <br />George F. Geyer who owned it until his death in 1930 when it was inherited by Mattie Geyer Gardner. <br />The Geyer family had been using the house as a rental since 1921. Dean Gardner, Mattie's, husband, sold <br />the house in 1948 to Charlotte Jacobs. It was the Jacobs family who _constructed the commercial addition <br />on the front of the house around 1955 <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Install wood fence for property security and appearance. The front being at the set <br />back of.621 LWE. (Exhibit A) <br />EDGEWATER PLACE STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: I. THE ENVIORNMENT B. Building site, <br />Landscaping and Accessories: Recommended: New site work should be based upon actual knowledge of the <br />past appearance of the property found in photographs, drawings and newspapers. New site work should be <br />appropriate to existing surrounding site elements in scale, type and appearance. Plant materials and trees in <br />close proximity to the buildings that are causing deterioration to the building's historic fabric should be <br />removed. Prohibited: No changes may be made to the appearance of the site by removing old plants, trees, <br />fencing, walkways, outbuildings and other site elements before evaluating their importance to the property's <br />history and development. Front yard areas shall not be transformed into parking lots not paved nor <br />blacktopped. Fronts yard areas shall not be fenced, with the exception of properties along LincolnWay, which <br />may be fenced, but not with enclosed stockade -type fencing. <br />RECOMMENDATION: The fence will be wood stockade fencing along the rear and side of the property <br />and chain link across the front and other side of the property to match current fencing applications. Staff <br />recommends approval. (Exhibit B.) <br />
