PUBLIC HEARING <br />18 Application Number: 2007-1120A <br />19 Property Location: 1344 E. Wayne Street South <br />20 Property Owner: Kevin Wilson <br />21 Landmark or District Designation: East Wayne Street LAD <br />22 Rating: Contributing <br />23 <br />24 STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE/HISTORIC CONTEXT: This 1925 Colonial Revival house <br />25 was built by Whitcomb and Keller and sold to Ruth and Anton W. Peterson in 1927. Mr. Peterson was <br />26 president of Peterson Battery and Ignition Company located at 321-325 Lafayette. Mrs. Peterson was a <br />27 nurse and director of the Nurse's Registry for St. Joseph County. This house had eight additional <br />28 owners before it was purchased in 1995 by Kevin Wilson <br />=9 <br />0 APPLICATION ITEMS: To demolish non-original 2'/z car garage and replace with new 3 car <br />31 garage tying in with existing concrete slab. The garage will be built in a style and with materials to <br />32 compliment the house. Please see attached drawings and site plan. <br />33 <br />34 STANDARDS FOR EAST WAYNE STREET: IH NEW CONSTRUCTION, C. SHED AND <br />35 ACCESSORY BUILDINGS: Accessory buildings are those structures that serve a specific <br />36 subordinate function to the residence. These include garages, carports and storage sheds. All of the <br />37 accessory buildings are located in the rear yard. Most of the garages were designed in an architectural <br />38 style related to the residence and were constructed at the same time as the residence. <br />39 REQUIRED: Accessory buildings shall be located at the rear of the property and as unobtrusively as <br />40 possible while preserving historical relationships between buildings, landscape features and open <br />41 spaces. Proportions and materials shall conform to those required for new construction. <br />42 RECOMMENDED: Accessory building designs should be compatible in character and mood to the <br />43 residence and the neighborhood. <br />44 <br />45 RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval. The proposed garage will replace a non- <br />46 original structure. It will be in a style and scale to the house and located at the rear of the property and <br />47 not visible from the street. <br />48 <br />49 Klusczinski: Did you have an opportunity to sign in?
