.r <br />.4 <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: August 6, 2008 <br />Application Number: 2008 -0805 <br />Property Location: 710 Park Avenue <br />Architectural Style/Date /Architect or Builder: Second Empire /1875 <br />Property Owner: Georges Enderle <br />Landmark or District Designation: Landmark/Chapin Park NR/LHD <br />Rating: Outstanding <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: The Mary Chapin Anderson and Andrew Anderson house <br />is a three storey Second Empire home with an irregular plan. It has a stone foundation with walls of <br />shiplap clapboard siding with corner boards; the ,entablature has paired brackets. The house has an <br />asphalt shingle hip roof with gable dormers while the tower in front has a mansard roof with wood <br />shingles. There is a full width wrap around front porch with paired Doric columns on stone piers <br />supporting an entablature with dentils and balustrade. The porch has a flat roof. The windows are 1/1 <br />double hung and most have segmental arch molded entablatures. The front door is wood with a single <br />leaded light; sidelights are leaded and there is a stained glass transom. <br />ALTERATIONS: The porch was added in 1901 to reflect the classical revival style in vogue after the <br />Colombian Exposition in Chicago. The metal finials at the corners of the tower have been removed. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Refurbish/restore /retrofit existing window sashes in mater bedroom and <br />bathroom on second floor as described in annex. Old glasses will be stored in basement. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT,: Please refer to Replacement Systems International, <br />Ltd. proposal by Richard C. Spigelmyer. Exhibit A. <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES:, <br />CHAPIN PARK STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES; C. Windows and Doors Required: Original <br />windows and doors shall be retained including sashes lintels, sills, shutters, decorative glass, pediments, <br />hoods and hardware. When deteriorated beyond repair, they shall be replaced with unites and trim <br />resembling the original. <br />GROUP B LANDMARK STANDARDS: b. Treatment: Treatment shall be defined as any change of <br />surface materials that will nor alter the style or original form. Such improvements include reproofing, <br />glazing, or landscaping lawns and may involve a change that can potentially enhance or detract from the <br />character of the landmark.... <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION:. Staff Recommends Approval: The work proprosed is identical to COA# <br />2008 -0604 approved by Commission on June 16, 2008. <br />
