109
Sassano: Because I like the terrace idea very much, and there are several of them on a
110
couple of my favorite houses in that neighborhood. The pergola is rather foreign to that
111
neighborhood and I agree with you that this is a rather inelegant pergola. And, I'm just
2
not sure what its purpose is. It faces north so we're not really looking at sunshade. It's a
3
dcult thing to design so that it doesn't look like a back porch and I was a little concerned
4
that there's no indication of any kind of moldings or trims. You've got pretty simple 2x10
115
probably_ standing upright._It_doesn't seem _to_have any scale that goes-with the house.
116
Dregits: I agree, and I didn't design this but I was thinking something more of a revival,
117
something that would tie in with this architecture and not necessarily this pergola. Maybe
118
something with an elliptical.
119
Sassano: My concern really is that a front porch pergola is just not something that we see.
120
And it's a pretty significant visual aspect, typically you'd have a low brick wall, possibly
121
brick peers, pavers, beautiful hedging, nice lighting and I'm not so sure that the
122
methodology of having four additional columns to the back or attaching it to the house... to
123
me, to approve it, I'd expect to see a little more resolution and I don't know how we can
124
approve it on his word that he's going to approve it.
125
Dregits: I agree with that. Would you be willing to, if I render some drawings, would you
126
be willing to...?
127
Zeiger: We just need more information and more detail than what's here.
128
Sassano: I would offer that you might want to build the terrace and come back if he could
129
with a separate C ofA for the pergola. What that might do too is really give the owner a
130
chance to mock it up and figure out what they might really want to do. But then you're not
131
held up from getting the most important part done which is the access and the terrace.
132
Hostetler: If the owners are amenable to amending their C ofA to come backfor the
133
pergola at a later date and go ahead with the French doors and the patio that would be
134
fine.
135
Dregits: That would not hold up the process at all?
136
Sassano: At least not the most important part.
E97
Klusczinski: Sir are you authorized to negotiate on behalf of the owners as far as the C ofA
MR8
is concerned?
139
Hostetler: The owners are here.
140
K Griffith: We're right here. That's certainly fine with us.
141
Klusczinski: Could we get your name and address on the record?
142
K Griff the Kevin Griffith, 1118 E Wayne. The project manager designed that and that's
143
not in the aesthetic value of what we wanted to do. I'm fine with amending that and putting
144
in the patio and the French doors and resubmitting something aesthetically more pleasing.
145
Within our street, what I'm going towards, and would like some input, there are the free
146
standing on our street which I don't' care for. So, we're wanting to put something more
147
aesthetically pleasing connected to the house, but the free standing that we see in the
148
neighborhood is not what we want. We want something more distinctive and more to the
149
original flavor with the home.
150
Sassano: Are we allowed to offer suggestions?
151
Klusczinski: I'd like counsel to weigh in on something first. Larry, do we entertain public
152
hearing before we ask for the C ofA to be modified or amended?
153
Metiever. I think that it's a good idea to hear public comment just so that if there is any
154
other comment then we can consider that as we discuss the entirety of the C ofA. So we
155
should listen and see if there would be serious support or serious opposition to the
156
proposal.
157
Klusczinski: Ok, thank you very much. Any other questions for the petitioner?
158
Chase: Personally I can see how this shelters the doors and doesn't make them quite as
159
inviting for entrance, and for a better design ... I happen to have a pergola and they're
160
marvelous. It would give a little more, well-yes, designed well.
75 1
Dregits: Yes, I just saw this for the first time tonight.
3
